Your career prospects
Childhood educator
Nowadays, more and more children are attending day-care centres, after-school care facilities and other child care establishments from an earlier age and for longer periods of time. Such care provides them with a wealth of important experiences: They learn how to express themselves, develop their own self-image and establish social relationships. They master crises and become increasingly autonomous. Childhood educators are involved in all of these processes.
A degree in Childhood Education qualifies you to work with children within this context.
The academic qualification also enables childhood educators to analyse, design and develop educational and organisational structures. Childhood educators take on leadership roles and are also actively involved in evaluation projects and further education and training for educational specialists.

State recognition
Your degree qualification as an “Childhood Educator (B.A.)” is automatically accompanied by state recognition, the ‘seal of approval’ for educational specialists.
Against this background, your degree programme involves a large amount of practical work, namely 1,860 hours, which are integrated into the course across a total of eleven modules. The central phase of practical work is the internship semester, which entails a six-month internship block with an approved internship host, accompanied by a qualified internship supervisor and university internship adviser.
Our Praxisreferat (Internship Office) will support and advise you throughout your internship.

What you will learn
The professional activities involved in educational work with children and young people focus on and revolve around learning and educational processes. We are committed to enabling our graduates to plan, implement and reflect on such processes with regard to the unrestricted participation of every individual. This degree programme will provide you with the necessary didactic knowledge – not only on a theoretical level but also directly intertwined with practical experiences.
All different places of education share the same professional approach, from families to day-care centres, family centres, communities and schools. Against this background, we will analyse places of education, and you will learn how they can be actively shaped, transformed and networked.
